My dealer was selling a Shelby GT (not 500) back in early march for $15k+ over MSRP. I don't think you'll realistically be finding a GT 500 for $2-5k over. As someone else said, I believe most are going in the $60k+ category.

Hammeron
I have heard approx. 9000 cars per year for two model years. 07 and 08. Not sure what is correct at this point.
I think they are going to be doing something different in 09 because of the GM products coming that model year.

That's just plain sad. Is he that greedy or doing that bad in sales that he has to screw his best friend?
ORIGINAL: GT Bob
My Sister sells Fords and knows the owner of the dealer she works for well. She recently handled the sale of a Shelby to the owners best friend. This was a man the owner had known for 45 years, were the godfather of each others kids, had been in each-others weddings, and regularly went on family vacations together.
This man managed to walk out of the dealership with a Shelby for about$18,000 OVER invoice, which puts it right around $60,000 or so. Plan to spend some coin if your serious.

Wait till later this year and buy a mustang GT for a lot less than invoice due to all the rebates/incentives to push the 07's. Then spend $15,000 for the GT 500 engine, fuel pumps, etc. Might as well get a 9 inch rearend with all the money you'll save over the shelby.
Sell the stock engine to recoupe some of the cost and you'll still be way ahead. Unless you want the name and look of the shelby. Personally I don't like the looks, i'd rather have a Gt with the GT500 engine.
What rearend do the GT500's have?
