Do you want to hear something funny my friend owns a Chevy Tahoe and it pings sometimes and that' without a tune or CAI. We have bad gas here. I have used XR-1 octane boosters before and laugh but I use the XR-1 fuel cleaners too. That's in the event I get too much carbon built up. I have already had to have my throttle body and the fuel system cleaned because of a irregular idle. Believe it or not I have 43 thousand miles on it and I have already replaced the battery too. Ha Ha hee-hee.

Run what you want, as long as you don't have any ping issues you should be fine. Its not harming your engine to run the 93 tune.
This is the first time I've heard of engine pinging while running a tune. I feel like if I get a tune I'm going to be constantly watching for that, and carrying a few bottles of octane booster in my trunk at all times.

There is NO substitute for a good dyno tune. Every car is differeent some how & the only way to addres that properly is on a dyno w/ a good FI guy tuning it.

So I take it a 91 or 93 octane tune from Brenspeed isn't going to cut it...

I usually only pump BP 93. I've never ran regular in it, and only maybe once or twice non-BP.

Can you explain what "irregular idle" is?

No that is not true at all. A dyno tune is best and I dont think many will disagree. Brents or Dougs custom tunes are very good to. They are going to produce the most HP but they will give you great gains. Dont worry so damn much. Very few people have any problems with the tunes and if they do the tuner, Doug or Brent or whoever, they can adjust the tune alittle to fix the problem. I wish people would understand that just because one person posts something about a problem with the tune, they are many many more who dont post how well the tunes run for them. Some do post the success stories but afterall it did what its suppose to so not everyone is going to post about it.

When my car was sitting at traffic it wouldn't rev at a regular idle . It would rev high then drop low causing a check engine light code P0506. After the cleaning that was corrected . It runs fine now.
