I just sold my car and am wanting to purchase a stang. I want a mach 1 but am also looking at an 05 gt. I was talking to a guy with a mach 1 and he says the new gt is about the same as the 03-04 mach 1. Is this true??

i was in the same boat as you; expect my gt is new and thats the reason i got it over the mach is becase im the only driver. How much is the 05/mach ? Most likly if you shop around; you can get new at a sim price.

If you can find an 03-04 cobra in your range that isnt beat the hell outta, get that. Between the mach and the s197, go for the new one. Its all personal preference though, im a big fan of the machs, i just wanted the new car feeling. Performance wise, yeah they are close, real close.

A co-worker has an '03 Mach 1, I nearly considered one in late '04(a new left-over white Mach 1), but for the $31,000 asking price(willing to go down to $29,000), I just wasn't impressed by the New Edge design, thought it was an improvement over the '94-'98 cars(but now I like those better) at the time. When I saw a S197 in person, it was no contest. I wouldn't even consider a Terminator. Just 'cause a car is "bad-***" on paper(and in real world acceleration) doesn't mean it a "dream" to live with. If you like the New Edge design, then by all means, buy the Mach 1, but I'm just not happy with it's style. Seems like a bath tub, short, dumpy looking and a very cramped interior. The Mach 1 concept seemed nice(interior changes, ram air induction, 32V power, big brakes from the Cobra, etc.), but that body looks soooooo dated. I think the S197 makes a much more convincing looking Mach 1 concept. CDC has all the goodies to transform a S197 into a Mach 1 and that's the route I'd go if I wanted a Mach 1 look............but follow what you ultimately want and can live with.
On a side note, I was browsing the AutoTrader on-line(a friend's interested in a S197 Shelby GT500 or Saleen S281 S/C) and I noticed that '05 GTs and '03/'04 Mach 1s are around the same price($20-23K), but the Machs usually have more miles on them[&o].......at least you want a Mustang

depends...imo if you want a mean looking car get the mach 1

but if you want a beastly looking car get the S197

power wise the mach turns low 13 second quarter vs the usually high 13s of the s197s, however, for the price you should now be able to find cobras diping into the GT price range

I traded in my 03 Mach for my 06 S197. No contest, the S197 is a superior engineered car and will make way more power with equivalent mods. But, it all comes down to budget and personal preference.

if your in the range of a new GT you could a get an 03 04 cobra for around 30k a lil bit under wit lil miles and you will not be sorry. rare car, fast and makes power so easily.i would vote the mach or cobra though because they are more rare than the GT.
