Default rattle at 3000 rpm

So ive been gettin a nasty mettalic sounding rattle at about 3000 rpm.. I did a little research and found a TSB fpr a similar issue... went through the troubleshooting steps and concluded that it wasnt the cause... I bring it to ford. Of course the first thing they do is check for check for an applicable TSB and find the same one... only they go ahead and install the hose clamps as recommended... I wasnt suprised and it didnt fix the problem..

Next I took the service manager for a ride so he could hear it.. and he says its the catalytic converter.. they replace it... nope not it...

now they want me to leave the car with them for a day so they can troubleshoot it... wtf have they been doin all this time?

oh and they ****ed up the position of my exuast .. the tips stick out about an inch more now.... hard to trust a mechanic who dosent know how to use a measuring tape.

anyway... I know a few other people have been havin the same issue... has anyone found what it is?.. suggestions?

vent cover on top of the tranny maybe? I was under my car today tightening bolts, reinstalling my heat shields above my cats, adjusted my torque limiters. The only thing I could find that would make any noise is the vent tube ontop of the tranny. I'm assuming its a vent cover, hard to see it or impossible to see it rather. Feels spring loaded like the vent tube on the axle.
