if money is no option buy a gt500 and mod the F*** out of it, Much better baseline engine, if money is an option buy a GT and mod the F*** out of it, wtf are you gonna pay 40k more for a saleen extreme when the mods that come with it dont even total 15k?

the gt500 has a 5.4 liter motor where as the others are 4.6. there IS no replacement for displacement. you will always be able to get more power out of the 5.4 than the 4.6.

Doesn't the Saleen extreme have a built engine with 550 hp? Then that would be a better starting point instead of a stock gt... The GT500 is a monster if you get it up to 800 hp... but a built 4.6 should be able to pull off 600+.

The fastest Saleen to date, the S281 Extreme, goes into production, boasting 550hp

Apparently you have the coin, so by teh GT 500; the potentila of the 5.4 is huge, especially with the Kenne Bell and whipple Blowers. Otherwise, I prefer the GT. Teh Kenne Bel can develop the kind of number as reported in a Mustang and Fast Fords article recently

A limited production all black Saleen S281E(with 600hp, but no warranty, like the old days) will be available soon(black wheels, all the trim, etc. and a reprogrammed tune for the extra 50hp). Sounds like fun to me. Also, the Saleen tune is relatively tame, so someone like JDM, I'm sure can get you 700+ hp on a S281E. Btw, the S281E has more than $15K in upgrades over a stock GT(custom built forged motor, 6 speed Tremec, Torsen diff with 4.10 gears, Saleen IV S/C, 15" front discs, tuned suspension, 20" forged wheels, very expensive Michelin tires and special ground effects(lower body diffusers). Don't think that's replicable for 15 large, maybe 30 large, but wouldn't have a Saleen pedigree. I really like the S281 Extremes, although like others have said, a GT500 with a built motor(thinking of a SHM aluminum 5.4L block) and some serious dieting can run 10 second 1/4 mile(9's on slicks) at a buck-forty+.
I think either would make a tremendous giant killer, but I would have to concur, there's no substitute for cubic displacement
