Won't pass inspection!?!?

Had my car at the stealers the other day and noticed that the inspection is due so I had them renew it. The service writer comes back and says it didn't pass, something about the sencers or something. I'm running a 93 tune w/CIA---do I have to be it back to stock or should I just have local shop inspect it.

it seems for you, it would be very easy to return
to the stock intake, airbox and tune. i would try
that and see if it passes

another option is to try a lower octane tune if you have one.
ie 87 or 91

RE: Won't pass inspection!?!?

It has been my experience that my cars have always passed with flying colors at my local inspection station. At the dealer, however, they usually find something that fails. Once, they told me my wiper blades were worn whenI had, in fact, just replaced them about a month earlier. Not to be one of those conspiracy theorists, but I have a sneaky suspicionthat stateinspections may be a real bread and butter money maker for the dealer service departments. Ever since my wiper blade fiasco, I have avoided dealer inspections like the plague.Just my 2 cents.

I've always tried to avoid dealships in the past.

Just wondering, do the smaller local shops hook it up to a machine like the dealerships do?

Not knowing what your state emissions requirments are, your tune might be doing it. But if he said you have a bad sensor why didn't he tell you which one? Or was he just guessing. Probably just put the tune back to stock and it should pass.

When do you have to have an inspection?

New cars in Cali, are 5 years exempt, then the fun begines..............

My local shop just gives me the stickers and tells me whats wrong. They never hold me from passing the inspection.

try reading dtcs and maybe erase them because it mite jus be a faulty sensor.

I would guess that it would depend on your particular state and local laws regarding inspections. But one problem we have in Virginia is that they scrape your current sticker before they start the inspection. So if they claim you fail for a worn wiper blade, you have to let them replace it or you fail and they mark your car for failure with a special "failed inspection" sticker which allows you ten days to get the problem fixed. But you can't just go to another inspection station and hope to breeze through because you have been "marked" and they are probably going to check you even closer than usual. In my locality, it's best to find a good, honest inspection station and never go anywhere else.

If there's a problem with your sensors, your tuner should be able to pick up the code, and tell you if one of them is malfunctioning... I would return it to stock for the inspection.. It'll take 30-40 min to return to stock to pass.... Better than paying someone to find out what may not be wrong.
