Default 3rd brake light required by law?

I have seen some mods that cover the 3rd brake light. Anyone know if the 3rd brake light is required by law in Florida? Don't want to break the law.

Thank you. I just want to make sure I am not pulled over or draw attention to myself from law enforcement in Miami. You have helped me though and I will remember that.

Yes its required by law. It started in the 80's so that people could tell the difference between break lights and running lights.

Thank you - I would never want to break the law - especially a federal law.

By the way - You have a beautiful car. Best wishes to you.

If you want a ducktail that covers the 3rd brakelight, you can get one that mounts at the top of the rear window. That way you dont have that ugly light on your bumper anymore, and its invisible in the back window, unless its lit up. It can be found here.
