It is all in the tune. 450 is the limit for a manual. 400 for an auto. you could push 480 or so on a turbo but I wouldn't go that high on stock internals.

I'm puching about 370rwhp on a very rich tune (10.8 AFR) and i'm planning on getting an aluminum DS and long tubes, and re-tunning it, so I should be around 410. Why do you only say 400 for auto?

RE: MAX HP for stock V8??
My car is safely tuned at 465.1 rwhp. It was dynoed at 488rwhp, but my tuner, Adam at ST Motorsports in San Bernardino(who came highly recommended from Jim Bell himself as well as Whipple) detuned the car to the current 465.1 and locked it. My car is completely fine and is not even close to being on borrowed time. It is not running on full boost at all times, and normal driving produces no boost at all, thus creating no internal stress at all.Being in the shop doesn't mean sh#t! You don't see what a car is doing or has done, you only see what has broken and can only assume you know why.

we just did dyno run with 13psiprocharger and can not get 465 rwhp and to do itwith out it running lean great job. We took the rod out at 5400 rpm with 13 psi 450 hp out of the engine last summerbest ever got. new forged parts are rated for 700 hp at flywheel will dyno after built. note the guy now runs 9 psi lol

Why does everyone get so defensive when some states an opinion? Actually only one car in the shop that have had my car at has blown (S197)Your tune is everything, from what I hear you have a great tuner, I have heard of Adam at ST motorsports. Explain to me this, there are just as good tuners or better around the states. Tunes were perfect and the stock internals blew at 450+rwhp. Alot has to do with the tune, alot has to do with the driver. You have a driver that redlines it everytime in a 450 rwhp will more than likely break. I have seen plenty of the S197 go above the 450rwhp mark and have had no issues yet! Does that mean they won't in the future? No, EVERY CAR is different, I think I stated that once already! If someone ask's what the general hp the engine can hold, I would say 450 rwhp max. you can't assume his tuner will be able to safely get what you have! Can it go more, yes, but some of us are not so lucky to have Adam from ST motorsports or other great tuners at there waking call. So if some ask me what's a safe rwhp on these 3V, I will say 450rwhp. With knowledge of working on these cars and being around these cars being tuned by pros, thats a SAFE HP to get without worrying. So don't get so defensive, and blow up your cheast and say "well i can get this and my guy can get this from my car" who cares! The general consensus is 450 rwhp. More or less depends on your tuner and how lucky do you feel.
Dont body doubts your numbers nor that your car is safe. But there is always a possiblty that when your running F/I on a car not built for it from the factory that your motor could give out. so I say why push it to 465 rwhp when 435 rwhp is just as safe if not safer and your butt more than likely will not notice the 30 rwhp.

50 hp difference between the manual and the auto? Why is that?
