Default $50 for new TPMS straps?

I just got new rims today. Ford want $50 per wheel to put new straps on my rims. I will be using the same sensor. Is that about normal price or am I getting robbed?

Sounds like theft to me. Someone will come up with a more reasonable solution, I just havn't found it yet.

Good Luck!

I think you're OK, doesn't Tirerack charge something in the neighborhood of $200? If that is for all 4 then you're even up but if not, you're still getting a deal. I'd take it just not to deal with the stupid light.

Someone posted awhile back about getting a pvc tube and sealing it and putting the sensors from your old rims inside it and then setting the pressure inside to 32 or whatever stock is and throwing it in the trunk. Not exactly sure if it works or not but a few dollars compared to 50 some a sensor i'd be willing to try it

I've heard of a number of people that this does work for them but also 1 or 2 that said it didn't.

i haven't heard that the tube doesn't work, but either way $50-60 is an absolute ripoff!!! there are posts on this forum that discuss all this in detail with pictures and all. apparently discounttire and NAPA have the bands for about $50 for all 4 straps/bands. too bad the search engine on this forum is a total POS. i'll see if i can find the thread. . .

https://mustangforums.com/m_2060535/tm.htm. this has the plans for the pvc tube in the trunk, which is what i'm doing since i swap out my 18s for 20s and back depending on the season. that way i won't have to switch back and won't have to buy another set of sensors.

It doesn't sound that bad to me.

Think about it. Assuming youbought new tires and rims, a decent amount of labor is involved here. They would have to unmount the original tires from the original rims and remove the sensors and then remount the original tires (unless you wanted to leave the original tires and rimsseparate which wouldn't make sense). Then they would have to unmount the new tires from the new rims and install the sensors, followed by remounting the new tires and rebalancing all four wheels. Nothingis cheap, nowadays......
