When is too soon to change transmission fluid?

When is too soon to change transmission fluid?
I picked up an 07 5 speed V6 Mustang last weekend and have put about 500 miles on it since. The transmission is a little noisy and from what I hear Royal Purple Synchromax should help make it a little smoother.
Is it too soon to change transmission oil now?
How about changing the motor oil to Royal Purple Synthetic at the same time?
Thanks for the advice.

I dont believe in the giant 5K-10K break in periods many do... But 500 miles is way too soon. The metals in your engine and tranny haven't 'shed' like grinding metals need to.
Changint o synthetic is not bad though, but wait a little...
Id wait until 1500 miles then change to synthetic motor oil. Some say thats too soon but remember, many cars come from the factory with synthetic Mobil 1, like all porsches and Cadillacs, and many more.I dont trust Royal Purple... Thats some rough stuff chemically. Not so sure its ford approved either. You may want to stick with ford approved Mobil 1 5w-20, or one of the other big name makers, maybe Valvoline.
Some people swear by these 'special' companies, like redline, amsoil and royal purple, but its hard to trust these brands...
As for the tranny, definately go longer just because its a waste to do it anytime soon... Let it break in more. I did mine at 8,000 miles and it was bright red stuff, so it probably didn't need it even then... Yes the tranny is loud, but youre beating on it with a 4.6 V8 so you really can't expect it to sound like a luxury car.
Again, I stuck with Ford approved mobil 1 tranny fluid...

I change my oil at 500 miles. A Ford service tech told me that was the smartest thing I could have done, and I told him I always do that to a new engine. Gets rid of the trash generated by a new engine as well as any left over mould sand. I put in M1 BTW. I do it again at 2000 miles just in case.

For those that change thier own oil, is it very difficult to do? Do you use a jack and stands or ramps? What size socket is drain plug?

Jack it up on the driver's side enough so that you can get to the drain plug and the filter (which is on the bottom left - driver's side - of the motor).
Don't recall the size of the drain plug ... for some reason 13mm pops in my head.
