2007 "Pony Package" Spoiler removal
Hey guys and gals,
I just purchased a GT spoiler for my 2007 "Pony Package" Mustang. I*m wanting to remove the exsisting spoiler and install the new GT spoiler. I unbolted to original spoiler and it seems that there is adhesive holding the spoiler to the car, in between the bolt down points. Does anyone know if this is in fact the case?. If so, how do you get the spoiler off without damaging the paint?. Thanks in advance for ya*ll help.
Regards, Podie

Use heavy test fishing line to saw through the foam adhesive, Goof off to remove the excess. I did this and it worked great. New spioler should just bolt on. Might want to use some 3M tape or leave the remainder of the old adhesive to make sure your trunk does not leak.
Good Luck

Yes indeed, there is adhesive between the two....
Use a piece of heavy fishing line, and use a sawing motion between the spoiler and deck lid. Perhaps a blow dryer to warm it up as well....It'll pop off.....
Welcome, and good luck,
Mike

You are correct - 4 bolts and lots and lots of double-sided tape! I just went through the same thing. After trying the fishing line trick, I kept breaking line, and ended up just using a lot of elbow grease. It eventually popped off, and I was a happy camper - no damage to the paint, and not even any adhesive left on the paint.
HOWEVER, I discovered areas of the paint already worn off by the old spoiler! [:@] After debating at home, at work and online about what to do with it, I decided to put the old spoiler back on and take it to my friendly neighborhood Ford Quality is Job One dealership where they switched out old for new spoiler for me. I then pointed out the paint issues, and the dealership offered to touch it up for me.
All of this I could've done for myself if it weren't for the fact that I wanted it on record this all happened, in case it starts to rust and I need to turn it in for warranty. I'm still a happy camper with my new spoiler and only minor traces of the old spoiler remaining. It's kind of disappointing that the original spoiler would damage the paint like that, but I'm glad I caught it now, rather than when rust started showing on the trunk.
Make sure you have the gaskets to go between the new spoiler and the trunk - or make your own. That will keep it from leaking.
