ORIGINAL: zx9rpilot

The factory navigation system is networked through the car's BCM (Body Control Module). With that in mind, if your car didn't come with it from the factory, it is a HUGE PITA to retro fit one, if not impossible.

Go aftermarket if you don't have Nancy the Navigator installed from the factory.
If you don't mind me asking, what does the BCM network do?
The aftermarket AVIC's will detect speed, Direction, Gforce front, rear, Side and angular volocity. What more do you need :-)

Personally I would go aftermarket I am saving my money for the Pioneer AVIC Z2 using the same money as the factory would cost, Costco has the Z2 with the installation included for the same price as the factory Nav.

Be careful what you want to buy... there's no lockout disabler available for the Z2 yet.

It's easily installed for the Z1 but the Z2 at the moment is proving difficult to bypass!

go read around avic411.com (yeah, I love my Z1)

+1 Yea he's right
there is no bypass yet. Z1 is very nice, Bluetooth for phone, voice recognition, XM/Cerius/Mp3/CD/AM/FM DVD Navtraffic, the works I wish I would have got it, but the D1 was only avalable at the time [:@] www.AVIC411.com is awsome

Yep stay with a Z1 for now. Ducatiboy or someone will find a bypass eventually though.

I like the factory unit although the Z1 has more features, there not ones I would use much and I like the matching
lights (same as dash) and the volume/speed sensor. factory unit has a better warranty and resale value.

Thanks for your imput guys. Sounds like Pioneer have made another sale

The fit, does it marry with the cutout in the dash perfectly? The antenna for the Pioneer, is it routable into the lights then or anywhere you like?
