RE: Motive or FRPP GEARS?
There are mixed reviews all over the place. Some like Motives and some like FRPP.

Motive Performance Plus gears are made with an extra strong race quality alloy. They also do NOT have a reputation such as Richmond for "gear whine".

Gear whine is not due to gear brands. It is due to bad installation.

The Motives whine...period - and it has nothing to do with thier 'name' it has to do with how the shim and cut is on the motives.
Search motive gears on any S197 forum and you'll find out real quick FRPP is your only choice. Get them now or get them later - choice is yours.

You obviously don't have motive on your car.

I did my search now you should do yours to find that there are mixed reviews on both companies.

RE: Motive or FRPP GEARS?
I honestly don't know if it has to do with the changes in the S197 8.8 (there are changes - even the 31 axels are beefier then previous 31's) because I know the motives worked just fine before but for some reason they don't in the S197's. My guess is because they are using the exact same set-up as before and FRPP made the suttle changes to accomodate the new rear and diff but this is just a good guess - I don't know for sure why. Search other besides just this forum for info as this place is great but it's not exactly known as the most technical mustang forum around...

RE: Motive or FRPP GEARS?
sorry to disagree...of 5 ford dealers I spoke with, THEY even acknowledge....that the gears they now INSTALL ARE THE NEW FORD RACING GEARS not the Motive gears and here is what was said:
these are the new improved gears for the 8.8 rear end, they have a new cut on the gears, which provide less noise and wear and tear.
Thanks

this is what was sent to me when I was inquiring about gear installs. this is the 3rd email from the 3rd different Ford dealer...and they all claimed the difference in gears. between the motives and the new ACTUAL FRRP gears. take it for what its worth....
