I run 255's all around on 18x9 wheels.

What is the width of the stock 18's?

the stock 18" fanblades are 8.5, im assuming the 18" bullets are the same

You are corerect, the reccomended wheel size for my RA1's is NINE-11. I ordered NINE inch wide wheels. EIGHT inch wide wheels would be shoehorning them on. 10 or 11 wide wheels weigh more, which is obviously something I want to avoid.

Obviously per your link Falken is okay with as narrow as 7.5 inch forTHAT tire. That tire happens to be a 50 series tire, andis neither a common orpopular size of tire for the application we are talking about. The tire you are referring to is 28" tall - taller than the factory tires. If you look a little deeper and take note of the 40 and 45series tires, which are used widely - you will seea different story. There is always an exception to the rule somewhere, but in this case the commonly usedsizes in 275 width require a 9" wheel or bigger - occasionally 8.5".

Yea, the choice of tires in the 275's is slim pickings even with a 9" wheel. My personal choice would be the 255's on the 8's or maybe 8's in the front with 235's, 9's in the rear with 255's.

I think the actual rim width is different from 17's to 18's.

I gotta ask since I just noticed that 275/40/18 isn't in the list of RA-1's

What Toyo's do you have? T1R's, maybe?

They're actually 275/35/18's

I've been running 17's till now. I have a connection that gets me scuffed/qualifying tires from a World Challenge team - hence the switch

Well I'm unsure what I should do now. I ordered 275/50/17 drag radials from M&H. They said I could put them on a 17x8, but on their website it recommends 17x9. I still haven't ordered a dedicated pair of rims for them and the price difference between some 17x9 bullits and stock 17x8's is negligible. I'd like my rims to match, which is the only reason I was considering the stock rims.

I'll also be running this at low pressure at the track

I know my rims are wider but in response to driveability issues with wider tires, I have not noticed any difference. I don't use the Nitto 315 DRs on the track, where they're pretty useless, but they are very good on wet roadways. I have 2 sets of MTs (MT ETStreets& DRs). I would not use either on the street, unless I fancied going aquaplaning in the rain.

Will I really loose a signifigant amount of handling going up to the 275's? Im not a autocross enthusiast, but like I said it is my D.D and I'd hate to do something id regret and have to deal with everyday... I just really like the look of a huge fat tire in the back and think it will be GREAT for the strip!![sm=helpout.gif]
It's not just racing handling - you have to consider everyday driving. Having tires too wide for the rim can lead to a very unstable car in turns or foraccident avoidance.
