ORIGINAL: tritonpwrd

Ive never understood why people are worried about leaks and stuff when switching to synthetic. Correct me if im wrong but 5w-20 is the same thickness weather its dyno oil or sythetic. The difference being synthetic will not break down and easily as dyno oil.
Dino oil has additives that break down & create sludge after about 500 miles. Full synthetics dont break down & create the sludge, one of the reasons you can go longer on full syn oils.On older cars the sludge fills in all the voidsin gaskets & such where there would normalybe a leak. When you change over to full syn in a car like that it cleans out the sludge & oil leaks thru the bad gaskets. Just fix the gaskets & leaks, nothing bad about the oil.
