If you get a chance, I would greatly appreciate some more details on how exactly you went about painting the plenum.I also have a windveil blue, and I think your plenum looks great. My plenumis messed up from the sagging hood liner, and I'd like to paint it, but have no idea what to do - how to prep it, where to get the paint, how you painted the letters, etc.

It's really not that hard. If you don't have any paint experience you might be able to find W/V blue in a rattle can from duplicolor. I used a basecoat/clear coat system on mine only because I needed a dead on match on the paint, and because paint is a hobby of mine.

Items you will need which can be found at any parts store that deals with auto paint:
some lint free towels
wax and grease remover
plastic adhesion promoter, in a rattle can- sometimes Wal Mart, hobby stores
tack rag
paint
clear coat
3m double sided tape
flat paint brush, a small foam brush will work

To start you will need to remove anything from the cover, (pony if you have one, and the rubber bushings). Try to get as much of the tape residue off as you can, you don't need to remove it all.

Wash it with a good liquid dishwashing detergent, scuff the entire cover with a grey scotchbrite pad paying close attention to corners and any little crevises. Don't get to rough with it you just want to get rid of any shine. Wash it again and let it dry, or use a compressor to blow it off. Wipe it down with a good wax and grease remover.

Take the tack cloth out of the bag and let it sit while the cover dries, before you tack down the piece open the rag up completely and ball it up loosely. Lightly dust the cover.

Lightly coat the piece with the adhesion promoter let it flash between coats.

Use the same method to paint it, light coats, patience is the key here.

Clear the piece, take your time but don't use as light a coat, if you do you'll get the "orange peel" look.

The lettering step will depend on what you use to paint with, with some paints this step is before the clear, and others will be after the clear. I've always used a paint that I can clear over. If you tell me what you decide to use I can give directions on doing the letters/stripes.

When it's all said and done just apply the tape to the pony and set it on the cover.

Hope this helps. I've never been a good teacher.

I did 4 of each. First coat light, two medium, and one heavy, but take into consideration that I used auto urethane, not rattle can. If you use a can your coats won't be as heavy and you might need more coats.
