steering wheel tear
so my leather steering wheel is tearing at the T points. i took it to the dealer and he had a ford rep look at it. he said that the oils in my hand caused the tear!
freaking BS. they're saying its wear and tear and doesn't fall under the warranty even though it's OBVIOUS it's a freaking defect.
i'm going to take it to a different dealer though and see what they say. i just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem

RE: steering wheel tear
I don't get it. So if my engine blows up, it's because I was using it too much and that's normal wear and tear? I thought the only things excluded from a bumper-to-bumper warranty were light bulbs, tires and batteries. How can they say that a steering wheel will fail fromthe action of you normally using it and that this is to be expected? The steering wheel should be covered unless you are Edward Scissorshands. Where in the owner's manual does it tell you to wear gloves to prevent the steering wheel from falling apart?

RE: steering wheel tear
stop using girly moisturizer and you won't have that problem.... JK that is probably one of the worst excuses I have ever heard regarding any defect on a car. I would definitely take it to another dealer. That dealer may be on Ford's watchlist for having too many warranty repairs or something like that...

RE: steering wheel tear
I can guarantee a "Ford Rep" never looked at it. First off, Ford Sales/Service Reps are white collar folks. They are there to manage the business side of the Ford/Dealer relationship. They can approve questionable warranty claims, approve Ford repair cost share, etc. Now, an FSE (Field Service Engineer) is someone that knows a lot about cars and they are called in for technical assistance. The problem is that there aren't very many FSE's......so unless your dealer is in MI they are not local to you. They have to fly out to the different dealers to assist with big problems.
This sounds like dealer BS and you should definitely go to another dealer. Defects are not a big deal.....but dealers treating you this way makes it a big deal and that ticks me off.

That's BS! It's the same thing as if the stitching in your seat let loose because your *** was sweating in the summer. They'd fix that.

i'm going to where i bought my car. i know the GM there and the head of service was going to do it for me, but that dealer is about 20 miles and he told me i should use the dealer closest to my house and it should work. i have the day off tomorrow and i'll do it then.

The thread is part of the bumper to bumper warranty.
