+1 Like the others have said, enjoy the car and modify it to your liking. But don't expect to make money on it because of the mods, it just don't happen.

As far as low mileage, it only helps so much. A few months ago my brother bought a 2000 Mustang GT with 31k miles on it for $11,500. I think the car was at least $22k or more when it was new, given the options.

if you're trading the car into a dealership, the mods (or car for that matter) won't amount to DICK.

that's why I sold my modded 02 Trans Am to an individual. I was able to sell it for an even 20K even though it had a 17K high retail. That's because it was well-taken care, low miles, and TASTEFULLY modified (all of which are hard to find in used performance cars)

so my advice: take care of her and don't do anything tacky and you'll be suprised what you can get for it. (especially with some real nice pictures and an autotrader ad)

+1 To most of your opinions, for me money spent on mods = recreation money same as a vacation but usually last longer, I dont expect to get it back

I am spending a ton on my car and have no illusions that I will get anything more than market value, despite 20k+ in mods. So it will be with me for quite some time.

Cars are a liability therefore you will always lose money on it whether you mod it or keep it in mint stock condition. The exception of course are the classics that have been pains-takingly restored and are VERY rare or one-of-a-kinds. Like what you see at the Barret Jackson auctions. I can see an 03 Stock Cobra for example gaining in value in say 20+ years (20+ btw is when a car is officiallyconsidered a classic).

If you don't have the money to lose when modding it, then don't mod it. You will not recover most of the $$ value on the mod. As stated, modded cars will typically lose value faster than an unmodded car. The reason, the perceived value is limited to those who would actually be interested in the specific mods. Smaller audience.

Banks will also look at a stated price against their own books and if the car is priced at say 10,000 when all the rest of similar make/model are half that. They may not provide the financing to the person looking to buy it. Too much liability for the bank in case they have to repo it.

I went through this about 5 months ago when I sold my Chevy to order my Mustang. I didn't even think about it that much at first, but the buyers were very suspicious of my mods, even thoughthe mods were few and rather conservative (intake, exhaust, shifter and wheels). The only thing that really saved me from selling below a pure stockconfiguration was the exceptionally low miles and perfect condition. I spent about 2K in all on mods and could havesold the car for the exact same amountwith zero mods (2K wasted in that regard). So for resale purposes, IMO mods are more likely to hurt than help.

Stock rocks for resale! Keep ALL of your original parts and put them back on to get the best sales price.

Thanks all. Not planning on selling anytime soon but just wondering what to expect with extras being added.
