Should I get an extended warranty for a just bought 2005 mustang gt?
I just bought a 2005 Mustang Gt with 19,500 miles on it. I am a do it yourselfer kind of guy, with pretty good mechanical skills. The factory warranty runes out in April of 08. Should I pay more money to get the an extended warranty? If I should, which extended warranty should I buy, and about how much should I pay for it?
ThanksRyan

unless you are going to drive it a lot and drive it hard, I would say no.
It has always been my belief that if you have suck little confidence in the product to get an extended warranty (a bet that the damn thing will break) they you should buy something else.

If you plan on any mods then definatly no. Extended warranties are easily void by mods more so than factory warranties. The warranties cost alot & you almost need a drive train failure to recoup the investment. If you do get 1, wait for your factory warranty to almost run out. Why pay for a warranty when its already covered? I wish I hadent spent the $$$ on mine now.
Grats on the car btw.

I bought an '05 three months ago with the extended warranty. I plan on getting a refund this week... The reason I already had to spend 1K on a new clutch, and the components and labor to go with it, because the dealer called its failure wear and tear from the previous owner (after only 6K miles). Combined with that fact I have things installed that would void a warranty.
I have a kmember brace w/torque limiters whichwill void the engine and tranny warranty. Like it or not, the dealer will blame failures on something like that. And since Im not a take 'em to court kinda guy, their opinion is the final opinion.
So all the extended warranty does for me will be things like the radio.... Thats it. Im cancelling.

I personally say yes. You have no idea what the previous owner did. How do you know the previous owner properly broke the engine in ? How do you know that at 78 miles, the owner didn't take it to 7000 RPM and did a brake stand ?
I bought my `05 Convert with 33,000 km on it (around 20,000 miles) and immediately opted for the Ford ESP.
