RE: caliper sticking? steering rack bent? something binding?
yeah, maybe tomorrow or thursday. i don't have to drive it much, thankfully. i'll keep my appendages all crossed that they don't ask me what the hell i was doing to injure the car!!! i go to this dealership because the gentleman in the service dept doesn't ask questions or turn his nose up at mods. we'll see. . .

i can just roll at 5 or so mph and ever so slightly "tap" the brake pedal and each time i let my foot off the brake the wheel will move about 1-2" left and then return to center.

Just throwing ideas out there..

thanks for the ideas. i just had it aligned last week, but something could have been incorrectly done.
also, i drove the car last night a bit and i think that it DOES pull to the left a bit when braking. i just don't understand how the steering wheel would move if something were just wrong with the brakes. it seems like it would have to be where the steering rack connects to the spindle for it to make that kind of movement.

And you're stomping on the brakes hard and notice the pull? I ask because I've seen cars that only exibit the pull on an emergency stop from around 25mph.
Certainly sounds like brakes.. but the alignment theory could be involved too. Maybe to rule the alignment/weight transfer out, bounce the front of the car while someone watches the steering wheel.
I've also seen where braking can temporarily cause alignment to shift, from loose fasteners, or bad bushings (typically around the LCAs).

drum roll please. . . it is the bushings on the BMR tubular A arms. they have failed. another chapter in the saga that is my front suspension. BMR's suupplier had a bad batch made to the wrong specs and they are waiting til people call in to fix the problem. sucks. they're replacing the bushings, but now i'm stuck with another $300 front end suspension install. dammit.
