Default Buying new wheel/tires, question about TPS sensors.

Here is the scenario. I currently have 17" wheels and will be buying 18" or 19" wheels from Tire Rack with the TPS sensors and tires already mounted. Will the fact that the wheel inner diameter or wherever the sensors are mounted affect the TPS system or calibration? Will I have to do anything special to get the system to recognise the sensors?

as long as they are the right sensors they should work. worst case youll have to take it ford for them to activate them. when i got new rims i got the sensors from ford and they activated them before i had them put onto the tire.

Yep, the sensors have to be turned on and "trained" so that the SJB can communicate properly with them. Your Ford dealer is the place to go to have this done.

Is there a place that sells the tuners to recalibrate? Just curious to what they run if they are available.

I don't remember the name of the place, but do a google search for "tire pressure monitoring system" and you should find something. Most calibrators that I've found are around $500-$700 so I decided it wasn't worth buying one. I'll pay to have them calibrated once or twice. I did the same thing, ordered my 07 with 17's with plans to upgrade later. I plan on sticking the factory sensors in a PVC tube and pressurizing it so I can swap the 17's back on for the winter and not have to keep recalibrating the car. Do a search for PVC and TPMS and you should find plenty of threads on doing this as well.

I looked on google the other day when i was researching rims/tires but couldn't find anything on the actual calibrator. When i do get mine i will be doing the same thing with my bands and throwing them in some pvc tubing and sealing it up and pressurizing it instaed of paying an arm and a leg for new sensors/bands.

Some 06s don't have TPMS, so you may notto worry about the sensors. All 07 models have them.
