Default Tire Pressure Sensors . . . What Year ?

What year did the GTs begin to get the tire pressure sensors and a working low tire pressure warning light? My 05 GT has a place for the light, but I don't think it's functional. Nor does my 05 owner's manual say anything about tire pressure sensors or monitoring. The manual only says that the owner/driver is supposed to check tire pressure in the traditional way once a month.

Did this become standard on 06 GTs, or was it optional all the time from 05-07?

I have searched the net and found no absolute answer. Some sources, even Ford 06 promotional propaganda, says that the TPMS would be standard equipment on all 06 Mustangs. Other reputable sources say that it only became standard with the 07 model. Wikipedia (I know...) tends to imply that the TPMS was phased in beginning in October 05 (06 models). Here is what Wiki says:

"The Firestone recall in the United States in the late 1990s that was attributed to more than 100 deaths from roll-overs following a tire blowout, pushed the Clinton administration to publish the TREAD Act. This act mandates the use of a suitable TPM technology in order to alert drivers of a severe under-inflation condition of their tires. This act affects all light motor vehicles (<10,000 lbs) sold after September 1, 2007. Phase-in started in October 2005 at 20% and reaches 100% for models produced after September 2007."

After much searching,I still can't figure out whether they were standard in 06, or were phased-in in 06, or were delayed to 07. Anybody know for sure?

My 07 has TPMS and I wish I was able to disable it.
It came stock with 16" OEM rims.[]

I'm very thankful that my 05 doesn't have the TMPS. That would surely be a pain in the tail that I wouldnot want to deal with since I swap wheels every couple of years. Just one more of a thousand things that you have to take the car to the dealer for. My nearest Ford dealer is 70 miles away, so I hardly ever have the time to take the car to the dealer.

I don't even know how TMPS works. Where is the sensor located?

What happens if i want to swap out my wheels, how do I make the low tire system happy?

All 07's have them, some 06's do. It was federal mandate for all cars starting in 07 I believe.

Actually, I think the federal mandate is 08 and on, they just started implementing it on the mustangs in 07, maybe a few 06's. I'm pretty sure they are across the board in all 08 models, I know my Mom's 08 escape has them, but I'm not sure how many other models have released 08's yet
