Roush hood scoop install question

Roush hood scoop install question
I'm puzzeled by the instructions from Roush that calls for a drill bit measuring "5mm". I can't find anyplace that sells a 5 mm drill bit. I bought one that's something like 5.18mm, but it's bigger than the bolts that go through the hood. What did you'll do? Just use a drill bit that looks close to the size of the bolts? Is there any reason why the holes should be sighnificantly bigger than the bolts. Help please.

RE: Roush hood scoop install question
I just did mine this last weekend....I bought a 13/64 and a 3/16 which is like 4.76mm.....I ended up not using the 13/64 at all......the 3/16 was just fine.....make sure you use the center punch and drill a 1/16 pilot hole first and you will be just fine......measure measure measure....then measure again....then measure again....take a breath and drill...have fun

RE: Roush hood scoop install question
just look at the size of the nut and drill with something as big or smaller and widen the hole if needed. took me a half an hour no problems. dont worry its way easier than you think. have fun. show us pics

RE: Roush hood scoop install question
How about fudging on the two front holes
and putting them a little closer together than
the template shows to put the scoop in a bind
to help hold the two front "legs" down and eliminate
the gap that sometimes happens with the Roush scoop?
Roushrecommend flexing the front up some and tightening
down the hardware to eliminate the gap. If you started
with front holes closer together by like lets say .025 - .050
would this not accomplish the same thing but not allow
the hardware to come loose over time and the gap reappear?

RE: Roush hood scoop install question
I'm concerned about drilling holes in the hood outside the template instructions. It seems most who have installed the hood scoops per instructions have been satisfied. Am I wrong on this?

RE: Roush hood scoop install question
I used the template and stayed strictly to the template and it fit perfectly. No issues whatsoever!
I have seen some people moving the template down (away from the windshield in the direction of the front bumper) a little to push the scoop a little closer to the front of the car (maybe half an inch or so) and that is when they noticed the front legs not lying flat. Unfortunately it was too late because they already drilled their hood.
I do not think 157db's comment/suggestion will hurt you but I would personally stick to the template. If you do go with his suggestion - I would stick closer to the .025 measurements.
