CAI vs STOCK with tune

CAI vs STOCK with tune
I know I will get BLASTED for this post?? But today I installed the factory airbox and left the tune and I could not tell any difference in power other than less noise, If anything there was more pull with the factory airbox and tune!! Maybe it was the 100+ humid day?? I am starting to think the TUNE makes 90 percent of the power??

RE: CAI vs STOCK with tune
I've always wondered about that. I'm about to pull the trigger on a CAI/b ama tunes, but honestly, if I knew the tune alone was the majority of the power, I'd skip the CAI. I'm not gonna race my stang, I just want less throttle lag, more pull when I step on it. I already have an XCal (ebay), so I won't be buying some package deal. Skipping the CAI would save me at least $200, and I wouldn't have to be concerned about getting more dirt in my engine, re-oiling the filter, etc.
So, anybody else feel like the tune is most of the difference?

RE: CAI vs STOCK with tune
For what it's worth ,I installed a C&L CAI ,WITHOUT a tune and noticed very good improvement with throttle response. The car pulls harder and seems to reach the power curve quicker. Now ,this C&L CAI has a "no tune" sleeve that goes inside the cai. This is installed so you won't need a tuneand to keep the engine from going too lean.I think most people do both the CAI and tune together.Legend GT

RE: CAI vs STOCK with tune
theres really mixed reviews on CAI, normally, JUST a CAI will net 1-2 HP on a dyno, but it provides better throttle response, i look at it this way, is it a $200 cheap mod, or is it a 1/4 of the money saved for a nitrous kit[8D]
most gains are in the tune, and IMO just a CAI is not worth the money, drop in a K&N and rip out the silencer or drill out the stock box however its set up on these cars and call it a day and get a tune
