Just got my 05 GT...

RE: Just got my 05 GT...
with this body style, bullitt rims are probably the best way to go. 17's or 18's at the most is what you want, especially if you still want some pick up. anything bigger will make your car sluggish. i'd suggest the pirelli pzero nero. they're great tires, i think its 235/55 (check on that). my tires are off of a GT and they just run great. i've always feel like i have great traction.
you're probably going to want to switch your audio....if you got that shaker 500/1000 (fyi, as a joke here on the forum it's called the skipper) change the head. i'm looking at getting the kenwood excelon head because it's ipod ready and changing my speakers out for some polks.
now for performance mods, you'll defintely want to change your exhaust/muffler. this is all personal preference, each person has their own idea of how they want their car to sound. if you want loud as hell and you got a GT, you'll probably want some SLP loud mouths. before buying my muffler, i searched youtube and heard a lot of different sound clips before choosing. most of the guys on the forums will have vids on youtube as well, so see each persons set up and find the system you like most. you will probably want to get some long tube headers, change the mid-pipes, and so on to get the best sound and power out of the engine.
almost every onee agrees, the best bang for the buck mod is to get a CAI and tune. i just got my C&L CAI and tune from brenspeed. it adds a crazy amount of power and no throttle lag. C&L has two different types of CAI's for GT's. if you check their website, www.cnlperformance.com you can see which one works. as far as tuners go, brenspeed is sworn by so many different guys on here (including me) and others like doug from b a m a chips. it really comes down to the octane level that you use though.
changing your gears is another thing to do. getting 3.73's or 4.10's will really give you the neck snapping you want. again, find what you like and go for it.
the CAI and tune will be something you'll feel right away. the exhaust and muffler, you'll hear. since i haven't changed my gears yet, i can't tell you about that experience. but what ever you do, remember, you get what you pay for. putting in a crappy ebay CAI won't do anything for your car and it will be wasted money. C&L is probably the best CAI to get.
for my car, i've spent $200 for tints, $325 to buy and install my muffler, and $602 for my CAI and tuner. i'm still thinking of spending another $400 for gears and a t-lok (GT's come with the t-lok, V6's don't so i want one) and another $300 for sound. what ever you do, as soon as you get the part on there, you'll be happy you did it.

If your going for looks then rims/tires are a good start but others are saying buying big rims will slow your 1/4(more rotational mass). Learn to drive the S197 then get Cold Air Intake(CAI) and Mandatory new tune/reflash for computer in car. Eventually you will notice car lags a bit when first stepping on gas. Very annoying after a while. CAI+Tune cure that nicely

If your looking for affordable, new wheels and tires is not the way to go. That will cost you over a gradn easy unless you buy used. Buying used is a great route to go, I bought alot of my parts right here on these boards and so far it's saved me about $800. Just keep your eyes open for good deals.
