I have a 4.0 and the catch point is almost all the way up as well. Drives me crazy.
I wonder if they properly bleed the clutch system at the factory...

i think that they were meant to be this way... you can shift really fast if you only have to push the clutch in an inch to shift...

You can bleed it easy enough without tools.
Park uphill and push the clutch in and release
very slowly 4-5 times. Bled.

Granted, to make a clean shift perhaps the pedal doesn't need to be fully depressed in the s197, but I still don't care for it grabbing so late when its released.
