ready for nitrous...please help
ok, never put much thought into this but now i have to...I am getting nitrous put into my car within the next couple weeks and i am not too sure which kit to go with. it's my birthday present
ZEX vs NX pros, cons...which is better...which is safer...
also, i will definately be getting the bottle warmer and blow down pipe but it may be cheaper to just get the upgrade kit which includes the heater, pressure gauge, fuel safety switch, and blow down fitting and tube.
Also, how hard is the kit to install. I just got quoted $450 for install. Doesn't that sound a bit high?

that sounds reasonable to me, if your handing
the shop all of the parts and they are doing
everything....

well, for the ZEX kit, bottle warmer, blow down tube, installation, and dyno tuning was $1640. Install is same price whether i purchase the kit from him or not.
If I choose to go with NX, which I hear is a better kit, then I add $200 to that price.

RE: ready for nitrous...please help
I believe when Iinstalled my Zex kit that with everything it took about 5 hours. That included the kit install, plus the heater wiring, switches, relay etc. So that would figure to be $90 hr for the price you got quoted. By the way everything is for sale since I supercharged, if your'e looking fora real good deal ,e-mail me for the details. I'm asking $750 for it with two 10 lb bottles included.

jerjan, i willtakethe zex kit from you in consideration. what is the condition of your system? pictures??? in the mean time, was the install hard? is it something someone with moderate car, motor, and installation savy could do...or do you think it would be better to fork over the $450 to make sure it gets done right???

RE: ready for nitrous...please help
I'm not going to be a lot of help to ya cause I rigged my set up. I bought a CompUcar system for my 2002 that had a fuel pressure test sight which the system hooked to. My 07 has no test sight so I Got a one gallon safety gas can and plumbed it to a Holley electric fuel pump and then to the solenoid. I put a pressure switch that doesn't turn on until the gas peddle is on the Floor or WOT (wide open throttle) to the computer. This tripped a switch and light on my conceal telling me it was ok to hit the button. The one gallon tank I filled with 93 octane. I guess my point is, whatever way or who ever does it have the system only be activated at WOT or the sensors will act crazy. WOT bypasses all the systems.

It doesn't look all that hard but what do I know I had mine installed. My price was about the same as you had quoted. I also had to pay for a Dyno tune. Ask if your price includes the tune.

RE: ready for nitrous...please help
Pay for it to be done proffessionally. I cannot stress this enough. Unless you are VERY confident in your mechanical skills, pay to have it done.
MAKE SURE he does a custom dyno tune as well. Nitrous is very touchy and going lean can equal BOOM!.
I Also highly reccomend getting a wideband gauge in your car, this will show you where you are at a/f wise and how safe you are while spraying.
All in all my nitrous system and components ran me about $2500 for parts and install, but is was worth every penny.
Btw i have the ZEX kit and love it, here are some pics
