ipod connection in 2007 mustangs
is it as simple as buying a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, hooking 1 end up to the ipod and the other to the jack in the center console (as the salesperson selling me the car says)? or do you have to buy the 'special' $250 ford connector?

It can only be used for 3.5 to 3.5 or if you find an adapter cable that uses 3.5, but it probably wont work with usb(only headphone style jacks). i bought a retractable cable from ebay for like $5, works great, when im done using it it just rolls the cord up neatly.

Yes, it is not an iPod jack, it is a 3.5mm cable jack. It will accept anything that has a standard headphone output. Most mp3 players, tape players, microphones, etc.
God only knows why you'd do the last two, but they're examples.

Also, I wouldnt buy this at Radio Shack. Go the the Apple Store and get a good one (like $39.00). It will make a big difference in sound. There is one pretty major design flaw though. The port into the car is in the center storage console in the front. But there is no feeder tube to the outside of the console so the cable will be crimped and pinched overtime (mine has). They should have created a hole or "U" shaped feeder conduit.
