I don't understand the purpose of the button and LED's in the console... I mean you're hanging the unit just a couple of inches away on the glass. I could see the benefit of the remote button and display if you were hiding the unit behind the grill or something... am I missing something? Does the remote unit give you something the detector itself doesn't?

I need to hook up my alarms dome super wire directly to the dome light. I used a relay for the dome super in the sjb but it only works like 25% of the time, it is correctly hooked up. Which wire would I need to tag from my -alarm dome super wire? Also I just got a direct wire for my beltronics radar detector. If I just tag a positive and negative wire to the fuse(cigarette plug) what wires would I tap those into in the dome super area...without hooking up to the circuit?

Hmmmm, it's a nice idea guys, but, a word of warning from an old-hand......
On a car I had I customised my dash top to allow for the permanent installation of a radar detector. I owned that car for a further 10 years and in fact my buddy still has it in his 'collection'. The radar detector I used then was obsolete within 18 months but I was stuck in the position of removing it and leaving a dumb hole in the dash, or leaving it in place albeit without 12v, which is what i did.
It ALWAYS bugged me that I'd mutilated the dash but there it was, in my face, every day I got in the darn car. My buddy couldn't live with it and removed the detector preferring the hole LOL
Of course, with this Mustangmod you could buy another overhead console cowling I guess.
Just trying to give you another perspective

do the black dots in the windshield and the tint affect performance?
do the black dots in the windshield and the tint affect performance?
Please note: Laser detection range is significantly decreased by the darker tinting across the top of most vehicle windshields, so visor mounting is normally not recommended.
Those dots will definitely affect laser detection.

Both Beltronics and Escort say otherwise:

It doesnt even matter if laser detection is limited... If you get hit with laser your detector becomes a ticket notifier because when your hit with laser your toast anywayz because it's an instant speed reading....

Nice Write up! Im gonna be doing something like that with my valentine1 sometime soon.
^ Valentine1 says that too
...The scotchlock doesnt seem that bad for something that doesnt require alot of current, inside the car. I've seen them used in much worse applications. just my .02

I ran my hot and ground wires down into the fuse box instead of the overhead console. If you don't want to drill, you can run a wire through the headliner, down the a pillar on the passenger side, and then there are a couple of screws near the fuse box in the passenger footwell that you can use to ground your system.
