I have been going back and forth with myself , thought alot about it, I can either purchase a very well kept up 91 5.0 ,black, 5-speed. Or I can dump 1600 dollars into a bone stock stang, 05 V6. CAI/TUNE, GT Rear Bumper with dual exhaust and other things. Opinions?

It willbe cool to have 2 mustangs. Mods will always be there to buy, that 5.0 may not be.

-edit- Im probably going to get the 5.0, I just wanted to get other stang owners opinions, to see if I wasnt losing my mind taking on a project. Its a very nice car. I will probably drop a 351 in it, and make it hell on wheels have fun while im young I guess

That sounds like a good plan. I would love to build an old 5.0 up for the drag strip and have it on a trailor n the whole deal....someday.

I guess I'm the only one here who is gonna say, mod your s197...I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the 88 lx hatch I picked up for 1800 bucks and sold two weeks later due to repair cost > value of car, esp. if some jacka$$ hits me on US-1 and I've only got liability on the thing because it's worth -0-. Honestly, how good of shape can it be in for $1800? And you know that those cars snapped t-5's left and right, correct?
I guess I'm not being objective enough...but I still say that the mustang has evolved enough to leave the foxbody in the past...but if you've just gotta have it, pick it up, you'll only be out $1600 if it goes to sh*t (what I told myself about the $1800 lol)...if it's modded check for subframe connectors because those things twist like pretzels, and figure a budget for a tremec/world class t-5 or equiv. rebuild if it hasn't already been done.
sorry to have an unpopular and biased opinion...bottom line just have fun, as far as we know, you only live once...

Watch out when buying a second, older, car.

It may cost more later on with mechanical issues. Even if its well-kept that doesn't cancel out the miles and years. You're talking about a car that will be 2 decades old soon.

Additionally, you're looking at insurance and registration costs on a recurring basis. That $1600 will soon be $5K,based on mechanical costs, upkeep and bills,and so on.

Modding a V6 might not be the greatest thing in the world... But in the end it will be cheaper after this first run and you'll have more fun in your baby.

OK so I've got a little support here..good...no rocks or rotten tomatoes yet...LOL...
p.s. with $1600 I guess you could do CAI/tune, trak-lok, gears, dual conversion (notchyour bumper if you want to save $$ - you can always pick up the GT rear fascia down the road) and you'll be about as quick through the traps as the 5.0, and reliable to boot...maybe there's some leftover cash for some drag radials...

the 5.0 seems like a better starting point for to start modding. Im afraid if I dump money into the six its never going to be what I want because its just that a sixxer, but I dunno
