maybe after he fills up he can just put that techron stuff in? would that help the tank burn fuel more efficiently?
IMO I wouldn't bother; premium gas contains many/most of the fuel injector cleaner additives already...

Ride it down till the gauge turns red, >15 miles I think. Then fill it with 93.

thanks for all the replies guys. we will probably just take a cruise until 0 miles to empty, then fill it with chevron 93 octane then we can install and he can have his fun.

how about some octane boost? mine ran fine that way.
everything I've read says octane boost doesn't raise the octane enough, maybe fractions of a point, so just burn the regular and pump in the 93...

Correct...the boosts are minimal and I use shell or BP most all the time.

The few times I have had to switch from 87 to 93 I do the following:

Run down to "0"
Drive to work (15 mi)
At lunch, put 1 gallon of 93 in the tank.
Drive home (15 mi)
Fill up with 93 and tune.

Mine doesnt, then again I have the v6 version.
