Default RE: What tire pressure should I be using ?

ORIGINAL: Silos_and_Sirens

Question about load ratings...Stock 235 50 18 is 97, I am running 255 45 rear-101 load. How much difference is there in handling/safety with a 245 45 in front @ rating of 96? Something like 60 lbs of difference, any thoughts???? The 50 series is just too tall! I have seen the 245 45's in action and they are sick on an 8.5" rim, with the matching 255 45 out back.
I'm not sure there is enough information in the "97", "96" to make any useful judgements other than "It's in the ballpark". Those numbers are shorthand for the actual load ratings.

The BFG originals are rated for 1609 lbs max load, the 245 45s at 1565 (KDW but different from originals), 44 lbs difference. I doubt you'd exceed that load in any ordinary road, or even racing, circumstances. Your car probably weighs 3400 pounds all-up; 4x 1565 = 6260. Unless you jump it off a building, you're not likely to overload it.

Add the excess of 255 45 over the 245 45 ( 1709 vs. 1565) and you have an additional margin of safety. Looks like a "No worries, mate" situation, to me.
