Default K&N cold air intake...worth it??

Hi all, I am kinda new to this but curious if adding a cold air intake would be worth the $$. I've got a 2007 Mustang GT, 5-speed w/ SLP Loudmouth exhaust but just looking for some more power. (arn't we all though?) I know it will increase my MPG and horsepower but I does it increase the engine sound too?

By the way, increasing the sound is a beautiful thing to my ears! Anybody care to help a girl out here????

Thanks, all input appreciated!!!!

The K&N is one of two (cant remember other one) CAI's that don't require a tune from flash device. I everyone claims that K&N makes the smallest hp. I don't know if I would buy into all that. With my 91 tune I ended up with 291rwhp and a guy with a JLT and same 91 tune from SCT ended up running 282rwph. That won't speak for everyone using a K&N, maybe my car was built on a Wed and his on a Fri.

First off, it will make your car sound different, but under the hood. It will have a nice growl to it regardless of which CAI you put in. Second, I haven't really noticed any mileage increase, but then again its hard to keep your foot out of it.
Third, it will make the throttle more responsive too

I've considered going to a C&L Street version or something else, and sell my K&N, but truth is, I'm happy with what I got.

Speedy is right, the cai alone will just produce sound and throttle response. Combine it with a tune and there will be a noticable difference in power.

Byt by the way, nice ride.

If you get a CAI i would get a tune as well.
CAI+TUNE
like a Sct 2 xcal. With those 2 items it is one of the best bang for the bucks you can buy for our cars

hey doctor j, post up your dyno . I want to see that k&n with a tune produce that please. just for giggles . i dont belive it . but your dyno will shut me up. you do still have it right?

the 2nd intake with no tune is a AIRAID. Dont bother to waste your breath on any of those 2. Get a C&l or a JLT along with a BRENSPEED or BAMA tune. The package should be around 550-600 for it.

I don't mind proving it. The owner of Alternative, Lidio, who is pretty well known for his tuning experience was having a hard time believing it too

I should have corrected myself and said the 91 tune I'm running is not canned, it was written by the owner of Detroit Speedworks, Greg Banish.

That is kinda of important!!
I will agree that the CAI/tune combo is the only way to go. If you are worried about warranty issues then look into the granatelli CAI with a recalibrated MAF which allows for more airflow without having to get a tune. It will get you around 20 HP in gains, while a tuneless CAI is maybe getting you 12. The CAI/tune combo from Brenspeed or B ama can get you 25-30. The tuner is a very important tool though, It allows you to change your speedo if you get gears, bigger/smaller tires and wheels. You can check engine codes that pop up. In most peoples opinion the tuner is one of the building blocks to all future mods.

Welcome to the forum and good luck!!
