I know this isn't really tech or anything but man this stuff stinks permanently. I was topping off the oil in my diff this weekend and, of course, things get messy. Well three washings later the shirt I was wearing and the rag I used to wipe up still reek!! Just a warning to anybody getting ready to mess with this stuff, don't wear anything you plan on wearing for anything but car work. Just bored and had to get this out there.

yep, gear oil does stink...always has, always will...but I still think the stench of spilled antifreeze burning on a hot engine is worse...a smoked clutch also has a pungent stench...so does burnt motor oil...

p.s. if it really bothers you, trade in for a honda (their manual transaxles use 10w40 motor oil)...NOT!

The synthetic lube is bad enough, but the little bottles of additve are the worst! That stuff is pure nasty!

Try dropping a pallet or 9 16 gallon kegs 20 feet in the air..Now THAT reeked lol.... Took about 3 hours to clean up and that part of the warehouse was smelly for a week and then som e[8D]

I haven't dealt with S/C oil on large amounts but it looks a lot like the 7808 oil we use on jet engines, very light with a bluish hue to it. 7808 smells kinda sweet especially when hot.

Maybe some smells worse than others. When I firsthad my gears installed the oil that I drained out after break in wasn't that bad. But after I put my trutrac in I decided to run redline(which is working great so far). Went to top it off after a round of intermittent leaks and ughh!! Smells like Rosie and Oprah had a fight in the out house.
