Default Spare as a skinny

Are the spare tire wheels speed limited? I know the tires are limited to 55mph or so but what about the wheels?

I'm thinking of picking up 2 spare wheels from a junk yard and putting on some M&H front skinnies on them. Before I do this, I'll probably paint them something other than black so they won't look like total crap. I just can't see spending $1000+ on skinnies and tires at this point. If i can get some spares for under $100 each and then the tires for around $250, that'd be worth the weight savings even though it won't be as much as what normal skinnies would shed.

If I don't do that, I'll look into having some stock 17 inch wheels cut and re-welded to 4 inches wide but I don't know who in Houston does this nor who to trust.

Yes, you can use your space-saver wheels at the track, but not the tires (which are speed restricted, as you noted). Race This has a 4.0L that he races with the skinnies mounted on these rims, and it's worked great for him. Wasn't able to find any pictures, but here's a video -

Good deal. I'll probably paint them silver or something so they won't look so much like a spare.

Even if it looks funny, at least i'll be running mid-12s so I won't be too embarrassed.

Does skinnies make that big of a difference?
I thought they only were used for high end drag cars.

It's all about weight reduction. My front wheels and tires weight about 50-55lbs each. Going to the space saver wheel with skinny tire would drop about 20-25lbs each corner (40-50lbs total) from the front of the car. That'll help the front end lift up a little more and transfer weight to the back. I've also heard it'll help especially since it's reducing rotational mass.

I'm planning for the future. I'll probably get the SpyderShaftsometime this fall. That should get me solid 12.5s or better.

Would it be safe to take our factory 17" wheels and have them re-welded to 4" wide as this was suggested earlier in this topic?
