Before more question pour in or statementrefering to me indirectly being a dumbass.I live in a large town population of about 2000. The shop is new(but not new to working on cars the come from Cali). The shop does everything from your finder binder work to vinyl, painting, body kits. The only thing they don't do is tune, supercharge, dyno, or any major performace jobs. So like I said before call around(negotiate because everythingis for sell and everything can be talked down in price) for those of you who don't think you would sell your stang you as well have a price you would sell your stang for.

I'm trying to surprise my husband with stripes on his Vista Blue 07. My quote is $1600. I went with a local bodyshop that was voted #1 in our town.

Make sure they are going to take your car apart and sand all those places that will be painted, including all the grooves and around the edges, such as around the windshield. They are clear coating it also and the owner told me I probably won't be able to even feel the stripe!

Have you picked out a color? I am having a horrible time picking the right color. We want something not so obvious. So far I have spent $60 buying those little bottles of paint for repairing chips. Its a lot harder than I thought!

I went with one of the top shops in my area. $1700 for stripes butI ended up getting the entire rest of the car clear coated with the same clear as the body panels with stripes due to it just looked so much better than the factory finish. Painter used Glassurit paint and clear (Whats comes factory on German auto's) amazing!!! Total was $2000. He told me that he would not do it for less than $3000 again...but look at the pics as to what level the paint job was.

as everyone else but the guy who lives in the small town has said, stripes are expensive to say the least. $1500-$2000 is basically what you'll be paying.

it can be more than that depending on the quality of the job.

Painting stripes is risky business ... Love em or not when they are done ... you're stuck with them ....

I had mine done for $1,200.00. I kinda wish I had paid a little more an sent it to a better shop.

If they are just clear coating the stripes you will feel a slight "rise" on the stripe running your hand over it. Nothing major but if your paint is basically perfect to start with there is no sence in clear coating the entire car. That's why the new stripes cleared will have that rise.

It's still 1,000 times better then vinyl... just make sure you do your homework on what size and color.

The striped panels (incl adjacent top surface of fr fenders and rear qtrs) need to be cleared, sanded and rotary buffed. You will not feel any edge on the stripes. I had no choice but to have the entire car re-cleared because of panel fabrications. not really necessary for stripes but if you have $3k go ahead. Otherwise $1500 - 2000 is a fair price for a quality shop for which you have seen examples of their work.

Thanks for all the replies and advice... and oh wow I had no clue stripes were this expensive!!!
So basically it's going to cost me around 15 or 1600. wow okay, im going to have to save a whole lot more $$$!!! I have 700 bucks and my dad said he would help me out a little, I also want to get the mirrors painted, side window louvers, and california special side scoops.
My dad thughtthe stripeswould be around $350... hahahahaha I can't wait to tell him the news.

Prep the mirrors youself (I'll send info if you want) and get them painted asap. Consider no stripes; they are quite common place now and most won't know if you have vinyl anyway until they get right up and check. Seems like a lot of money for something that is so similar (from 50 ') to a $150 vinyl job. Think about otherways to spend you money on the car before you go ahead.
