Default TSB 06-9-9 FINALLY

Made several appointments with the local Ford dealership to have this taken care of and ended up breaking the first 2 due to not being able to show up. Got in, told them the problem and waited for a tech to get to it. Tech then wanted to know when it had problems etc. so I told them it was only after driving 100 miles or more, which is when it happened. Talked to the tech and he said Ford wouldn't allow him to change the pump without codes on the computer, even after I told him it didn't give codes for this. Now, the paperwork they had in their hands even said TSB06-9-9 on it so I asked if he had even read that TSB. He hadn't and got pissed I called him on it and had me transferedto the service manager. The manager was a little more intelligent at least. I asked if he had read it, which he hadn't, then asked if he could look it up or would he like to see it on the USB drive in my pocket. He looked it up and said he had seen a similiar problem with another car and that they would run some tests to try to make sure that was what it was and then probably change the fuel pump. He also said he didn't want to just throw parts at it which I understand. They also changed the fuel filter and charged me $22.26 for the part but no labor so I'm not complaining. Only took about 4 hours and 2 technicians as they didn't put the first one that pissed me off back on it.

Now that I got that done I took it home and put the CAI back on along with the X pipe and loaded a tune back on it. All in all I'm happy but you'd think that if the paperwork they had said "See TSB 06-9-9" they would at least think to look at it. OK, that requires being able to think so I see why that wasn't done. It seems that the techs now just look at the computer and do what the codes tell them to. It must give them fits to see a car come in with a carb. and no computer.

What a PIA. I mentioned it while having an oil change. They evidently tested it, said it was bad, and ordered the part. Went back a week later and was in and out in an hour.
