I'm having gear whine trouble with these frpp 3.73 gears i installed.Looking for a speedshop near the Philadelphia area who specializes in these newer mustangs to reinstall another set of 3.73 gears the right way.

There is nothing different about setting up gears in the new stang vs the last gen stangs. You just need to find someone who knows what there doing.

IMO two things that cause gears to whine so bad in S197s are:
1. 2-pc driveshaft
2. possible mal-machined gearcarriers

I say this cause after I had my trutrac installed my gear whine decrease a to about half of what it was. After I put in my spydershaft it got even quieter. Now I only have whine on decel between 60-50 and its barely noticeable.

What exactly was the part number of the gears you had installed?
Did you break them in properly?
Have you taken the car back to the shop to have them re-check there setup?

Hey timmy i noticed you have an evo tune. Did they also do your gears? If so how they sound cause evolution performance isn't far from me.
Also thanks sandman for the link.

Evo didn't do my gears but they did my tune. It came with the tuner for my CAI. But they do gear setups last timeI checked.

To answer your questions.
The gears are 373n's which i believe are ford right? I was told by the tech at ford racing that they are fords and i could get away with using the same pinion shim. The backlash varied from 1 tooth to another to abouth .002 runnout. Maybe the carrier is warped eh.
I did the gears myself so im screwed

I don't know how much experience you have with gear setups but,I would take thecar to a shop to recheck yoursetup if you haven't already. You don't necessarily need to go to a speedshop just a garage thats good with rear end setups. Lots of transmission shops do rearend setups. The gears you got SHOULD be good but I'm not 100% on the exact P/N for genuineford motorsport 3.73. At any rate you should drive the car as little as possible til you get your setup checked. You can have quiet gears with the stock carrier but some sources suggest that the carrier are just slightlyoblong out the factory which can't be good for gear setup.

Evolution installed my 4.10's and t-lock (7.5" rear-end). I was happy with the results, despite some whine from the gears (NOTHING that is objectionable). If you don't have LCA's yet, ask Fred about theirnew Billet LCA's. Mine look and hook great!
