How many different key cuts does Ford have?
Here's a funny one. I have my 07 GT, I drove it to my parents house today and left it there when I took my dad to a Cardinals game (they won in awesome fasion) and we took his 05 F-150. We stop on the way home and I stop at a local ford dealer to look at a shelby GT because I heard it had an amazing markup on it. As we leave I get the keys out of my pocket and unlock the door, put it in the ignition, and try to start it. The key turns, the radio and A/C come on, but the engine won't start. No click, no nothing. I'm like WTF, I try again, make sure it's in park, open and shut the door, dad tries the key, nothing. Then I look at the keychain closer and realize it doesn't have they key to their Escape on it. IT'S MY KEYCHAIN!!!! his is still in my pocket. We pull the keys out and his truck key and my mustang key are IDENTICAL!!! obviously having different programming of the chips otherwise it would have started. This makes me wonder exactly how many different key cuts Ford has these days? Do they only have a dozen or so and rely on the programming to give them the multiple options? The key for their 08 Escape is different, but the truck and my mustang are the same even though it's 2 years difference. This just blew my mind, I had to share.

haha, I'm actually in the ghetto right now. I'm more concerned with a brick through the window as opposed to someone with a key that matches. Actually, I'm half tempted to walk around a large dealer's lot and see how many cars I can unlock. hmmmm......maybe I should have a salesman with me. I don't know guys, this could be the biggest fluke. What are the chances of a father/son buying new Fords 2 years apart and having the same key cut? Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket tonight.....damn drawing was 10 minutes ago

what difference does a lock box make, when mine will open the door? Yea, I won't be able to start any of them, but I'm not a car thief, so I wouldn't care.
