I suppose you have to appreciate the Mustang for what it is really. Let's face it, the overwhelming majority of people on this site and probably Mustang fans in general are into drag racing.
What's wrong with that?
Ford could have probably produced a less powerful Mustang that handled better for the same money. I doubt anyone on this board would have been happy with the result. It's a compromise that I'm willing to except on the vehicle in the price range of the Mustang GT or GT-500.
Is it any surprise, then, that the ultimate expression of the Mustang, the GT-500 is an uber drag racer? A cold air intake, tune, some suspension modifications, and you're good to go. Given the preferences of Mustang owners it's probably not surprising that the vehicle turned out the way it did.
I've been reading a lot of articles on the future Camaro vs. the future Mustang. I have yet to read a post that suggests Ford should lay off the horsepower and instead focus their energy first on world class handling and weight reduction. It just not what Mustang owners are after.
Is the GT-500 the perfect vehicle? No. There really is no such thing. I wouldn't buy one. If I were spending that kind of money, then I'd probably want something a little more well rounded, probably a Corvette.
The biggest question is, does the GT-500 do what Mustang fans want it to do? That is, does the machine perform as designed. Absolutely. It excels at what it's meant to do.

The main question is would I take a Mustang over most of the british and European offerings...Yes. The Japanese offerings dont get a look in they just dont interest me. I can like a car for its technical engineering and ability but for me to spend my hard earned on it has to have a certain charm or have some charisma about it. Which the stnag has in bucket loads.
Now if I could have my perfect 3 car garage or whatever the Stang would be in there. As would an Aston Martin DB9 and an EVO FQ400. Got a car for everyday and for everything I could want to do ever then.
See I want something more rounded as well which is why im going for a GT over the GT500 now a question of money as the GT will end up having a large amount of cash put into it. I just want the superior handling of the GT over the GT500 plus power can be made up in the 4.6 block to gt500 levels its just a question of money. You cant get over the weight disadvantage when it comes to handling though. So for me the GT makes better sense. I want a car I can take to the strip and drive fast but I also want a car I can take to the track and be somewhat competitive with the M3's and the like.
Everytime I think of Cosworth it just conjures up memories of the 80's Sierra cosworths and later the Escort cosworths. Some very capable cars in there day. And a Car that can still fetch $50k+ now for a decent one. Engines are very sought after as well. Dont think an engine block has been released since that was as good as the 2.0 Cosworth block for that kind of car. 2.0 escort was capable of 800+hp with the right mods. Seen a couple in Focus's. Im trying to get my friend to do a 5.0 cammer project with his focus.

The V-8 Focus thing was done herestateside a while back(but with a pushrod Windsor smallblock) and the results were SCARY(just as bad as Miata with the V-8 conversion, Miata=MX-5 in Europe).
Glad to see you're a proponent of V-8 power wozz....................
