I ask because my music will be muffled and distorted when I crank it up ot about 75%. I can't drive on the freeway witht he windows down and still hear my music unless I turn it way up.

If I replace my stock speakers, will the HU handle it or should I just replace the HU as well?

I had a Pioneer HU with some cheap sony's all around in my last car and the highs were a lot better, but the bass is better in the stang.

BTW, I have a 2005 premium GT with the Shaker 500.

Same rule applies....aftermarket will improve the sound dramatically.....replace all of it IMO. Good speakers help the the HU is still lacking...
