I go to a lot of car shows and cruse-ins. And I can tell you, that eveyone who has the side windows tinted without the moleskin has had problems with scratches. GET THE MOLESKIN.
Taco Bill has a post on installing them. Great post with lots of pics. Taco Bill is the Man.

its a liner that goes on your doors where the window contacts the window. its very soft so as not to scratch the tint

Check the major thread on this issue and you'll see there's no question about the original window lining causing major scratches to tint. I'm a victim and I'm still trying to get into the dealer to work out a replacement.

$200 for a tint job? That's outrageous, I spent $70 for all-around tint and a lifetime guarantee! And yes, you need moleskin, my tint lasted for a few months before the scratches started, but I installed moleskin myself for $20 (see TacoBill's tutorial) and had the tint guy redo it for free

Find yourself a cheaper tint shop, and install the moleskin before

When I got my tints they asked me if I wanted to put the moleskin on.I thought for a minute then said might as well not take the chance.Total came to 180 tints and skin
