RE: would i be happy with a GT?
Despite weighing in at 5618 pounds (479 more than the regular-cab SRT-10) and employing a power-robbing automatic, this truck's performance still qualifies as exceptional. The Quad Cab's 5.6-second 0-to-60 time was 0.7 second slower than the regular cab's, and the quarter-mile was 0.6 second off at 14.2 seconds. The Quad Cab squealed its tires to a 0.83-g skidpad rating, 0.03 g less than its two-door sibling, and registered a lofty 147 mph top speed, just 6 mph slower.

honestly, no
but if you redefine happy to mean having more $

They are both great cars but for the money I think the Mustang hass the vette beat. I cant tell you how many looks my car draws. I drive through Rodeo drive on weekends and I pull attention and photos taken all the time, and Im competeing w/ High$$$$$$$$ exotics. And I have taken some vettes, SL550's, 650i with basic bolt ons that I have.

Forget all the performance data and race-trackspeculation for a minute and consider the Mustang vs. Vette from a purely practical angle. How about build quality? I'm not familiar with the current generation of Corvettes, but how do they measure up in regards to quality control, reliability, materials? Despite several on the forum here who loudly shoutthat the S197 GT is the finest car Ford has ever made, there's plenty of evidence that Ford released the S197 with some significant flaws: water leaks into the passenger compartment, faulty fuel pumps, faulty a/c compressors, badly designed upper strut mounts that make a hell of lot of noise, dash rattles galore, poor quality leather materials, exhaust hanger rattles, etc.
$400 less per month is a significant benefit, but he may well get himself an S197 GT like mine that hasto go to the service department once every two months for repairs. The money savings becomes less of a savings if his Corvette is made from good materials andis trouble free.

Been thinking about going to a 06 or newer used GT. I have a 06 a6 C6 Vette with some mods, it puts around 395hp to the ground, the car runs great and has plenty of power thru out the RPM range, down low it will eat the tires up. The C6 handles like a dream and it gets 28mpg on the highway, but the payments are killing me at $800 a month. I figure i can buy a used GT and make around 400 a month payments, that would leave me plenty of mod money.

Dude, with a blower and no gears, it'll eat the C6 for breakfast. Like beating up on a girl! I haven't done gears, and have killed 2 new Z06's and 1 RT/10 Dodge truck(my bro-in-laws). A GT with some bolt-ons can beat a C6!

Well, the GT is the lightest, lowest pricedV-8 rwd new car available today. Yes, it's not a potent as a C6(or C5 for that matter, have you contemplated a C5?) in stock form, but for much less money, it'll give a stock to lightly modded C6 a decent run(to maybe 120-130ish mph) with a blower and gears.
If you shop around, you can pick up an '06 GT for around $21-22K(with a decent down and 7-8% financing) and you could be less than $400/mo.
I'm not a 2 seater fan, so I need rear seats and luggage room, and the Mustang has the Corvette totally beat there. If you can halve your car note(or better), I think you'll be how surprised the GT responds to simple mods and forget that plastic fantastic

Dude stock C6s are running 12.6 -12.8 at the track. That is damn near 1 second faster than a Fast stock GT. As for "Killing" new Z06s I do not have all the info you speak of... but if anyone says a Mustang is better than a new Z06 needs to have there head examined.
