Default Hurst Shifter Arm Loose?

After picking up my 07 stang from the alarm installer, I noticed that the shifter arm seems to have alot of play up and down when in gear. I am pretty sure it wasn't like that before. Could there be something loose underneath the boot? It has about a 1/4 inch play in it. The alarm installer placed the alarm flasher in the center arm console below the cup holder, so i know they had to take something apart to do that.

Thanks,

Sean

Blue threadlocker FTW. If not, you'll be tightening those suckers up every two weeks!

I had that problem too, blue locktite fixed it up good. It is easy to do. There are two bolts holding the chrome Hurst arm to the top of the shifter, youwill need an allen wrench to tightenup thebolts.

I torqued mine per Hurst directions to 35 ft lbs and used loctite...no issues with them coming loose.

I went a step further and replaced the allen head bolts with stainless steel bolts, lock washers and nuts.

No worries.

take a bolt out...............go to the hardware store and get fine thread nuts, which if I remember correctly they are 5/16".......torqure the nuts down tight..............no more loose shift handle.......

My shifter arm had a lot of play in it too. It felt very sloppy. I called Hurst and shipped it back, and they sent me a new one. I tried all the loctite and everything with the original one and nothing worked. Got the new one from Hurst and no problems. Feels 100 times better. I think something was wrong with the original one from the beginning.
