Valve knock from # 3 Cyl.
Ok so I got a 2006 which I bought in Sept 05 and has 3600 miles on it. I don't beat the crap out of it but I do drive it fast when I do, one day as I was getting into it on the highway I heard a pop , thought it was strange, but let it go because the car was runnig ok. Now, lately , in the last two or three times I took it out, and when the engine is hot, I hear a valve from cyl #3 louder than It should be. I changed the oil at 3000 mi. with Mobil 1 and filter, I was just wondering if any of you guy developed or have valve knock from your engines. I will be taking it to the dealer next week, but was curious to see if anyone might have come across this. It was real quite when I bought the car and Im wondering if valve lash is adjustable on these engines. Otherwise it runs ok except for the dreaded hesitation at low speeds, which Im hoping a tuner will help when funds are available. Oh yeah its a five speed. Thanks

Do you notice any loss in performance? How do you know it's a valve in #3 (did you do the "stethoscope test"?). It could be a spring retainer popped off. If it was a pushrod engine, I'd say a lifter. I think it is probably NOT a valve, but something else. If there were any valve issues, the computer would pick it up pretty quickly, and give you a CEL.

scope it, pop the valve cover. look and learn. these overheads... basically all the valve train is where u can see it.

you have the problem that many have, there is a problem with your vct varible cam timing. the oil is not fully advance the cylnder correctly letting the cam hit the top of the bucket over the valve. how ford fix the problem for a whils is swap out the entire unit. but due to it doesnt effect power they wont fix it anymore. sounds like a lifter but its the vct

Thanks for the reply, yes I used a tethescope, I am a mech/ machinist and have access to one, and no, I don't have any performance loss, except for the hesitation and or sometimes irregular acceleration. I thought the a tuner should fix that but the valve noise from cyl #3 is a concern. If it was the vct, I would think the noise would be from somewhere else, it is very evident at Idle, and thought maybe a adj. would work, but wanted to know if anyone had the same problem.
