Why is the GT500 1/4 time so close to the terminators?

RE: Super Snake times
because this guy is an idiot
"you, my sir, are an idiot. look, just because a 1/4 time is extremely low, doesnt mean the 0-60 is going to be also. shows you know nothing about cars. 0-60 under 4 and 1/4 times of mid-high 9's sounds right with those numbers. funny, b/c this isnt a stock block we're talking about.. its a race-prepped block w/ a lot of boost."

Hmmm, why is everyone(well one member) arguing about a car that doesn't exist yet? 0-60 and 1/4 miles will correlate, but that's not a true measure of all vehicles. Cars with AWD or rear/mid engined & rear drive will always have a 0-60 sprint faster than a front engine/rear drive car. Why are drag cars all front engine/rear drive? Weight transfer, less parts(less weight) and less prone to break something.
I really doubt the GT500 S.S. 725hp edition(with the 20" wheels that are standard) will crack a 10(maybe in testing, but it would have to have D/Rs, no way it would get there on a roadracer based suspension setup on the 20's). It will be in the low to mid 11s with a 130+ trap speed(if all 725hp is present), but definitely a high 9s car with a properly setup chassis, slicks and a tune for racing fuel.

Unless this thing comes with adjustable shocks, drag springs and super high quality control arms (i.e. a properly set up chassis). It would be tough to get into the 10's.

it really isn't. People just are real inconsistant driving em. People have run low 12's in em, while i think the fastest termi's have gone 12.6-12.7 stock, the fastest gt500's have gone 12.2. That's a pretty big difference. and trap speed difference is alot bigger.

RE: Super Snake times
I EXTREMELY doubt there are any hard numbers on the super snake. Not only is it new, but its a special edition rare car. You won't see hard numbers on these for awhile until magazines etc start writing reviews on it (instead of previews). Its not a regular car that car and driver has the numbers for before its released.
But anyways, the super snake is not a super car, like it or not. Itll be hard pressed to run into the 9s. When you talk 9's you're getting into true dragsters and cars built for the track. The super snake will be fast but its still just a souped up street car.
With no hard numbers to go on I'll have to say low 0-60 of 3.8 and in the low 11s
Remember, Lambos and ferraris are supercars, and these run around 11 stock. In fact a recent lambo, around 2000-2002, ran 12.5 stock... My point is cars arent THAT fast from the factory. They need purpose-builtsetups to go deep into the 9s.

RE: Super Snake times
lambos are over-rated. A current gallardo is just a slightly quicker than the gt500 in the 1/4. The super snake will be quicker IN A STRAIGHT LINE than alot of cars that are considered "super cars". I agree low 11's will be the most likely performance, but ford has been quoted saying, "at least 725hp." They can easily make well over 900hp with that 5.4 if they really want to and depending on how the ls9 corvette is set up, the numbers could go higher. Either way, the super snake is gonna be damn fast.
