Wiring diagram for the headlight switches

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches

i don't recommend cutting any wire. now having said that
it looks like.....
when you place the headlight switch into parking lights or full on, a module
in the smart junction box (sjb) senses this. it looks like this module then
sends some data to the instrument cluster, via wht/org & pnk/org.
i think what you need is a schematic of the instrument cluster itself, i think
that is where you would find the solution (if there is one).

The workshop electrical diagrams dont show
the internal working of the insturment cluster
just like it does not show the internals of the
SJB or PCM. The SJB communicates with
the cluster via a serial buss. Dont see any wire
to cut to not allow the insturments to go the
different color when the headlights are on.
Maybe reprogram the SJB logic.

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
Maybe the manual states a serial bus connects the cluster and the sjb, but that "serial bus" is actually approximately 20 wires attached to a harness, which attaches to the cluster. One of those wires has to tell the cluster to illuminate green when the headlights are on. I just need to figure out which one, so I can eliminate that connection which will result in an always-white cluster.

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
Oh, my mistake, did you cut it from the switch or behind the cluster.
I can't find the thread right now, but it said to pull the pink/white, or pink can't remember, just remember pink being in there... Anyways, it said to pull the pin from the harness behind the Cluster.
I tried to search for the post, but of course things get barried on here so fast that it's hard to keep track of stuff... But try looking behind the cluster for it...

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
I initially cut the pink wire with white stripe from behind the headlight switch. That didn't work. Then I tried cutting the white wire with pink stripe from behind the cluster. That also didn't work. The pins cannot be pulled or otherwise modified from the harness that attaches to the dash cluster. The harness is fashioned in a way that makes doing so virtually impossible. Therefore, the only real way to disconnet a wire from the cluster harness is to cut it.
My dash is still taken apart and the battery disconnected as I'm typing this. I'm using my other car until I get the Ford DVD I ordered from ebay yesterday, so I can try to figure out which wire might do the trick. It's easy to cut the wires, but it's a PITA to crimp them back together with wire connectors (hence why I am now waiting for the DVD before I do any more cutting)! What I would really like to do is install an on/off switch, so I can choose whether I want white or green.
I can't believe I'm already cutting wires on my brand new car! I shouldn't have listened to that jackass on stang-net that said cutting the pink/white wire would work. Oh well, at least I'll know to do a little supplementary research on my own from now on.

get the desired results. Unless you want me to tell
you what everyone of those 20 or so wires do?
2 are the MS CAN and two are the HS CAN.
One is Ground. Cut cut cut. Let us know what
you find out about this problem. I want to kill
the green also. I have researched this over and
over and cant find a way. Maybe you can by
trial and error. I only had the Ford wiring diagram
and could not find out how to do it. Maybe with
your infinite wisdom you can figure it out.

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
I don't really want to cut each one until I find it; I'm not sure if I want white lights that badly. That's why I'm waiting for the ford service DVD to come, so I can more reasonably ascertain what each wire does.
Btw, if someone already knows what eachwire does via the Ford service manual or otherwise, can you scan it in and post it?

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
I said to cut the pink/white, but i'm no jackass. I was merely telling you what I had read. I tried to find the thread, but I guess maybe it was over at Stang-Net that I saw it and not here... Sorry you are having bad luck with it. Maybe they change the colors in the '07 or something, I dunno....

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
I wasn't referring to you as the jackass, unless you are the one that originally stated (as fact) that the white/pink wire would do the trick over on stangnet. Otherwise, I know you were just reiterating what you and I had previously read.
Whatever the case, I think I'm the biggest jackass for listening to some advice on a forum without verifying it against a service manual or via some other source outside of a forum posting. Live and learn...

RE: Wiring diagram for the headlight switches
Spend $300.00 buck and convert to a mycolor dash, the dash installs in 15 minutes, works like a charm and you will be able to have any color lights you want and as a bonus, you get a an oil guage and Volt meter.
