Why are you accelerating hard when the engine is cold?

At least they found the problem. Good to know there are some good techs out there.

normally i don't, but one time i did and heard this noise...so i of course wanted to see if it was a one time thing or what. and it also happens on moderate acceleration too, or even light acceleration...just more noticeable with more gas.

So, I FINALLY got the problem fixed! My normal Ford dealership was closed, so I had to take it to Woodfield Ford in Schaumburg, IL. Luckily, they had seen the problem before - and they're trying to get Ford to issue a TSB about this as it is common. So, here is the solution - and if anyone else has a problem, tell them to call Woodfield Ford in IL - 847 882 5031 - they've fixed the problem before, and did it again with me!

EDIT: the problem was the spacer plate between engine and transmission contacting the back of the engine - print the following out and give it to your dealer if need be!

Thanks for the tip! I'll be doing this first http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...mp;postcount=7 , before dropping the transmission. My car is out of warranty so I'm on my own. Also, on the invoice you have, it says "remove plate and off metal section that was making contact". It looks like there might be some words missing - "remove plate and off metal"?

THANK GOD other people had this. i thought i was pinging badly. i talked to brenspeed a lot about it and used 93 octane on a 87 tune and it still made the same exact noise.

now i know my engine isn't getting destroyed when i drive.

i think they meant "remove plate and cut off metal section that was making contact"or "remove plate and saw off metal section that was making contact" i don't know, maybe they just tightened the plate more, or something...regardless, this is a design flaw, not a manufacturing flaw, and it is present in a lot of mustangs and has worried a LOT of us who thought it was pinging, or something equally as severe since it sounds like it is coming from the engine...

well, the rubbing can't be good, that's for sure. i'd still fix it ASAP before it has a chance to cause damage. but yeah, you're right, it's not something that will kill your engine, etc.
