i too had a metallic chatter noise at part to full throttle and it went away when i filled up with 89 instead of 87... so this spacer isn't the cause of everyone's.

yes this can be thought of pinging, but since it only happens @ 3k you know its not....that should only happen @ close to WOT
i get the rattle when ever im at a light after ive drivin for a while and it goes away when i put it in neutral (auto) v8 - and also when im going in reverse!

is this the same issue everyone else has? or mufflers -

also started after i had my slp axle backs installed last year
sounds like it's your axleback... you should be able to tell if it's in the rear or up front near the motor though.

Nope - that's a completely, totally different issue you're having there. The 2 bolts w/washers fix a metal-to-metal buzzing sound at 3000-3200RPM. That's detonation you have there. They're actually two distinct, different sounds.

sounds like it's the same issue addressed here...but may well be mufflers since it started after you had your slp axle backs installed. then again, it still could be this issue, but you didn't notice it before because these axle backs resonate at different rpms and frequencies than stock.

dumb question - since i've never experienced it, does pinging sound similar to this metal rattle i WAS having (now fixed, yay!)? and is pinging = knocking?

just curious.

Its the metal sheet behind the clutch. I could see where it was rubbing so i just bent the metal and now no rattle

This fixed it for me! The dealer replaced the metal plate, but I had to email them this thread and have them look at the pictures to know what I was talking about. They had been hearing thenoise and knew it wasn't pinging (knocking). They had already replaced both cats, most of the hangers on the exhaust, and been though the underside of the car several times. The real pain with this is that the noise goes away once the car warms up, within about 2 minutes (pinging usually will always be there under load) then you won't hear it again intil after the car cools down for 6-8 hours.Once they had the tranny out and took off the old plate they could see where it had been rubing.
It is covered by the warrentee so don't wait. No more nosie!!!!! Thanks for the pointers imyy4uand MTAS!!! Now my car doesn't sound like a big POS american car in the morning.
