Default GT 500 question

Hello all, I have recently purchased a V6 mustang. (One the price was lower as I payed for it myself, and 2 gas is already eating my lunch). Anyways I figured I could mod it to be all the more better later (with money that I currently am lacking). Anyways I want to swap my 260 V6 for a GT 500. Can anyone help me on what that will require me replacing, such as transmission and other parts to make up for the added power. Also if there is a place I could purchase the GT 500 engine by itself without having to buy the whole car.

smartest thing you can do is get a V6 and swap out for a built motor! youre headed in the right direction. look at sean highland motors, they are pretty damn good! he's a master of 3V engines, and for i think around 6 or 7 grand you can get a hell of a solid motor that is wicked powerful NA. just add blower and/or nitrous. a friend of mine got this motor, but swapped it from his GT, which is obviously more costly.

Thanks, Im fairly new to all of this as my mustang is my very first car that I can honestly say is my own. Stupid noob question but are all GT500 engines standard or are their automatic ones?

You can get a GT500 crate motor for around $15k I think. You'll need to replace the entire driveline - trans, drive shaft, entire rear end, suspension. You'll also need a new cooling system, new brakes all around, new exhaust....the list goes on. You'd really be better off enjoying the V6 for now, and when you're not lacking money in the future, go buy a GT and mod that - maybe even pick up a used GT500 depending on what the market is on those.

Take the V6 and make it into your own car (mix and match car parts ex. Saleen front and side w/ cobra rear). That's the whole point of having a Stang, customizing.

And for the motor, supercharge it and you got plenty of HP.

Unless you got a great deal on a wrecked GT500 with a good drivetrain .... It would probably be cheaper to just by a GT500 ...

This swap can be done, but be prepared to open up the wallet to do it.
My GT500 engine just arrived up at PowerHouse. Putting in a 4r70 trans, roll cage, custom ds, PH intercooled turbo kit, and some other stuff.
There will be a lot of custom fabbing required such as upper intake, cooling, etc...
This was no knock on the 4.0 however. I ran a best of 11.0 @ 126 with that engine, so the V6 is capable of great things.
I wanted to go with a unique project of 5.4 4V in conjunction with the PH turbo and see what she does. Preliminary plans are 650rwhp for the first season as all signs point to the shelby internals being at the "safe" limit there. After the first race season will probably go aftermarket forged pistons/rods and shoot for the 800+rwhp range.
So, if money is not the deciding factor, this is a doable project. If you are limited on funds just throw a turbo kit on it to get the most out of your 4.0 V6. In my opinion, you can run stock block with PH turbo and run 11.9's all day long. By the way, my old 4.0 turbo kit is for sale, pm me if interested.
Good luck with your project.

Bought a V6 and wants GT500 power.
Save your $$s and trade for a GT500.
The power is not suitable for the V6
platform. The engine is the least of your
swapping worries. Try working on the
V6 suspension to handle the weight and
power of a 5.4L GT500 engine and tranny.
Lot of time and $$ unless you enjoy working
out the many details involved with the "swap".

with the dealer markup!!

I think that would be the 1 thing that would never go away......and you even state you bought the 6 because of the lower price and better gas milage......then you make this story up[sm=wtf.gif]
